Career Magic Framework
What is a career?
First of all, a career is a journey. Not a destination. Contrary to popular belief, it is not a choice that you make once and you have to be saddled with forever. But, given that we are training our children to equip themselves for life, a choice of career is a critical choice and it needs to be an informed one.
How does Career Guidance Help Students?
The world has opened up, for your children. Today, all parents with children on the threshold
of choosing career paths have a shared reality – an experience of something that is a
mixture of wonder and bemusement. “When we were of the age that our children are at now, we
had far fewer options.” “Our lives and our choices were nowhere near as complicated.” “How
do we know what options are available for our kids today?” “How can I help my child to make
the right career decision?” These are questions that resonate with parents across all
cross-sections of society today.
It is more important now than ever before to be
well-equipped with information regarding the career choices available to your children. But
perhaps, even more important than that, is the pursuit of insights that will help you to be
a powerful ally of your child; a partner, not only a parent. In order to do that, you need
to deep dive into the nuances of job vs career, interest vs aptitude, opportunity vs
ability.
Career planning and development
And why are these deliberations so important? Well, that’s because far too many young lives are disrupted because of ill-informed parental inputs. For example, robotics might be a field that is ‘upcoming’. And there may well be many opportunities for quick and exponential growth in that field. A child may also have secured more than enough marks for a course in robotics. On the surface, all the factors may be coming together famously. But, and this is a big but, has anyone actually spent time on figuring out whether the child has explored all possibilities, tried to align her interests and her abilities? Has the child been exposed to a world of choice? Has the child been given access to experts? Or has there been only a perfunctory ‘interest and aptitude test’? Even if such a test has been undertaken, have the results been analysed by experts? Do we know what the graphs mean? Do we understand, as parents, what options are best suited for our children basis the results of their interest and aptitude tests?
This is the gap. Fortunately, it is one that can be easily bridged. Seekhlo is a platform that empowers parents and children alike to work together to embark on a journey called ‘career’. Because when you think about it, that’s what a career really is – it is a process of working on one’s inherent strengths, employing them in rewarding ways in areas where opportunities abound and thereby living an enriched, empowered life. And as parents, is that not what we really, really want for our children? With Seekhlo you can avail of the best expert advice on what careers are best suited for your children, how they can prepare to excel in them, what options are available to your child, and how you, as a parent, can play a key role in giving your child the best career guidance and career planning assistance. This is a key aspect of parenting today – learning to be an ally of your child in making decisions about career choices that were simply not available to you. And like in anything that is new, this needs some study. Our advice? Seekhlo!
